Amazon adds a free tier to their streaming music service in Australia

We all like something free, and Amazon are upping their game by giving away free music streaming with a new ad-supported tier now available to Australians.

The Amazon free music tier offers free access to ‘top playlists and stations’ in return for listening to some ads, an idea already popular with rival music streaming services like Spotify and YouTube Music. The service isn’t carte blanche access to the Amazon Music library, instead you get access to ‘thousands of stations based on any song, artist, era and genre; as well as hear some of Amazon Music’s top global playlists’.

You can listen to the tunes through your Amazon hardware like their Echo smart speakers, FireTV stick, or you can also listen in on the web or through the Amazon Music app – available for Android and iOS. You can even ask Alexa to ‘play Billie Eilish’ and you’ll hear music from a station featuring her music.

There’s no credit card, or subscription required, so if you don’t like it you’re free to leave at any time.

Free is always a good price, but obviously you can choose to either join Amazon Prime and get access to 2 million tracks, or pay the $11.99/month for Amazon Music Unlimited which gives you access to their full 60 million track library. If you want to take the free tier for a spin though you can check it out on their website.
