Extreme Gaming: Samsung Launches Odyssey G7 and G7 Curved gaming monitors in Australia

If you’re into your gaming, you’re into your gaming. This is either a casual past-time or something you are deep into, and when you’re deep you want deep pockets too.

Samsung today announced their Odyssey premium gaming monitors would be launching in Australia and that has gamers everywhere pulling back on the coke and chocolate purchases to squirrel away their money in readiness.

Available in two models, three sizes in total, the G9 is the mother of them all – with a 49 inch display curved at 1000R this is something to behold.

Then there’s the G7 series available in 27 and 32 inch sizes. (Remember when 27 was a big screen?).

A curved screen is ideal for gaming. While it didn’t take off in TVs, the gaming experience is personal, very close and ideal as it helps reduce eye strain and make for an overall more comfortabl experience.

These are all QLED screens, so the colours are vivid, plus they pack a 240Hz refresh rate – so you won’t get shot during screen lag.

Jeremy Senior from Samsung Australia says “Odyssey is a statement for Samsung’s commitment to offering gamers with the pinnacle of our capability in innovation, design, and experiences. The new range builds on Samsung’s growing curved display portfolio and collaboration with gamers to push the boundaries for gaming experiences,”

“The demands of gamers are more complex and refined than ever before, between the monitor and the PC, gamers are seeking precision and control as well a beautiful design for their set up.

“The Samsung Odyssey line-up completely challenges the traditional gaming experience by bringing together the key elements of next-level game play: comfortable curvature, immersive interaction and perfect picture quality.” he said.

The Odyssey G9 is QHD – 5120×1440 at 49 inches and will set you back $2,799.

For a bit less cash, you can get the G7 27 incher for $999 with a 2560 x 1440 resolution, but personally I’d stump up the extra $100 for the 32 incher with the same resolution.

Both are G-Sync and AMD Freesync compatible for a 1ms response time.
