Think your mobile bill is high? Think again. Australia has some of the cheapest mobile data in the world!

So you think you’re getting a raw deal on your mobile? Well, if you are it’s not because of the country you live in with research by Visual Capitalist, using comparison data out of the UK showing Australia has one of the lowest mobile data costs in the world!

Now, this of course will vary from plan to plan, carrier to carrier, but as a guide, it’s really eye-opening.

At the cheapest end of the spectrum is India, where a Gigabyte of data (1GB) will cost around 9c. That is driven by a lot of recent competition, and is most likely unsustainable, however, Israel is down there at 11c, Italy at 43c, and Kazakhstan at 46c.

4Italy43¢
5Ukraine46¢
6Kazakhstan46¢
7Somalia50¢
8Sri Lanka51¢
9Russian Federation52¢
10Vietnam57¢

All of those put Australia’s 68c in the shade pretty well, making us wonder why we’re paying so much.

Our raking around 15th out of the 151 countries listed.

However, let’s look at some like-minded countries shall we?

The UK – $1.39 – DOUBLE Australia!

52United Kingdom$1.39

Across the ditch in New Zealand, a staggering $6.06 per GB!

134New Zealand$6.06

And if you thought America’s worries were strong, wait till you see what they’re paying for data:

138United States$8.00

Yep, we’ve got it good folks. Real good.

And, the critical point here is that we have three world-class networks too. Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all operating networks on a scale rarely seen in the world in terms of geographic reach, and with great robust connectivity and extremely high speeds, we really are living in the lucky country!
