LG announces TONE Free – wireless earbuds with bacteria-killing case

Looking for another option in the Wireless Earbud market? Like there’s not enough choice already. Enter LG and their TONE Free wireless earbuds.

While we don’t have official pricing or availability, LG say they will be available in September, and judging by US pricing, we’d expect them to come in at or just under $250.

UPDATE: LG Australia have confirmed local pricing will be $279! (ouch)

Tony Brown from LG Australia says “At LG Australia we’re proud to continue delivering a selection of innovative and premium audio products to our customers. The LG TONE earbuds are an exciting new addition to the range. Our ongoing partnership with Meridian truly helps users reimagine how sound should be heard – whether that be high-res music, podcasts or movies,”

“LG TONE Free earbuds are special in that they are designed to cater to a variety of consumer preferences and activities: studying or working; cooking at home or connecting to the TV for a private viewing experience. In fact, our consumer research shows that 59 per cent of Australians are using earbuds most in the home and 40 per cent during daily tasks. The earbuds can either immerse users deep into the audio or give them flexibility to hear surrounding sounds to assist with multi-tasking,”

“Ultimately these multi-purpose earbuds provide convenience and high-quality audio experience, anywhere.”

Pretty standard bud and stalk design, these are Meridian Audio powered so should have a great sound too, and come in a Matte Black finish.

But the real standout unique selling point for the TONE Free buds is the UVnavo case. Throw the earbuds in for 10 mins of charging and the case uses UV technology to kill 99.9% of bacteria.

The TONE Free earbuds also feature ambient sound pass-through, and app based Bass or Treble boost where needed.

Battery claim is 18 hours, 6 in the buds, 12 in the case.

Sounds like they tick a bunch of boxes, we’ll check them out with a full review soon.
