5G is here and although not everyone is using it with their carrier it is only a matter of time before everyone does and when they do all phones will need to support it. OPPO are preparing for this releasing two new mid-range smartphones with 5G support, adding to their already large number of 5G phones.
Today OPPO have announced the OPPO A74 5G and the OPPO A54 5G smartphones offering “killer specs” at an affordable price. Both phones come equipped not just with thee 5G support but also Qualcomm Snapdragon processors large batteries and quad rear cameras.
Both phones look to be all-display with 90.5% screen to body ratios highlighting 6.49-inch LCD displays which support a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. The 90Hz allows for a smoothness not seen in standard refresh rate displays and will be noticed in most aspects of the phone including video consumption and gaming.
Both devices are powered by a Snapdragon 480 5G chipset minimising lag that you often see in some of the more affordable devices. The devices promise to last the full day, even with 5G on all day, thanks to their massive 5,000mAh batteries. The battery does include support for 18W fast charging as well which is a nice addition in this price range.
“What we’re seeing is a two-pronged approach to 5G rollout in Australia. On the one hand you have the major carriers accelerating the rollout of the network. Then on the other, you have brands such as OPPO maturing the hardware to make 5G accessible to everyone. With the latest A Series devices, we’re ushering in a new era of affordable luxury,” said Michael Tran, MD at OPPO Australia
The cameras also promise to impress in this price range with both sporting OPPO’s 48MP AI QQuad camera — 48MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle camera, 2MP monochrome camera and a 2MP macro camera. The selfie camera is a respectable 16MP.
The two devices differ in their memory — the A74 includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while the A54 sports just 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both phones support microSD expandability.
