AMD announces new AMD Radeon RX 6000M Series Mobile Graphics with RDNA 2 gaming architecture

It’s technically time for Computex, and that means laptop makers and chip vendors are announcing new gear with AMD leading the way with their new Radeon RX 6000M series mobile graphics featuring RDNA 2 gaming architecture.

There are three options in the RX 6000M series, with the RX6800M, RX6700M and RX6600M with 12GB, 10GB and 8GB of GDDR6 RAM respectively.

The cards will take ‘high-performance gaming to new levels’ says AMD with the RX 6800M capable of gaming at 1440p/120 FPS. The Radeon RX 6700M will support the same 1440p resolution though at 100FPS, while the Radeon RX660M dips down to 1080p, though retains the 100FPS.

Laptops featuring the new Radeon RX6000 series graphics which also use Ryzen mobile CPUs will benefit from some special features like AMD Smart Access Memory, which allows the CPU to access the GDDR6 RAM on the GPU, and AMD SmartShift Technology which intelligently switches power between the GPU and CPU depending on where it’s needed.

AMD also announced AMD Advantage Design Framework, a program seemingly similar to Intel’s EVO certification platform, though with AMD and their partners aiming at improving the high-performance mobile gaming experience.

AMD Advantage laptops will require ‘AMD Radeon RX 6000M Series Mobile Graphics AMD Radeon Software and AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Mobile Processors with exclusive AMD smart technologies, AMD FreeSync Premium-certified displays, fast NVME storage, optimal thermal designs, and other advanced system design characteristics’.

These specs will add up to an improved mobile gaming performance with a 100fps minimum, 144Hz+ high-refresh rate, 300+ nits brightness displays, 10+ hours of video playback and custom thermals to keep the laptop cool while you game.

The first laptops AMD Advantage laptops launching are the ASUS ROG Strix G15/17 AMD Advantage Edition gaming laptops and HP OMEN 16, with Lenovo and MSI expected to have models available later this year.
