Sonic the Hedgehog dashes into Minecraft

Minecraft continue to keep their game fresh with collaborations with various other companies and characters and today they have announced that they are partnering with Sega to release the Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack in the Minecraft Marketplace.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack includes the ability to speed around as Sonic the Hedgehog through various Sonic the Hedgehog locations including Green Hills Zone and Chemical Plant Zone. As you would expect with this pack there is the ability to collect rings, “dash past obstacles”, defeat bosses and build momentum as you run toward a high score.

Of course, each feature of the Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack has been Minecrafted and is blocky such as the rings to collect but the ability to speed adds a great element to Minecraft.

The new partnership comes in time for the 30th birthday of Sonic the Hedgehog. As part of the celebration players can also pick up a free Sonic the Hedgehog Character Creator item in the Minecraft Marketplace. You can then celebrate the birthday on June 28 by joining a special server event hosted by The Hive.

The special server event will last for two weeks and will feature Sonic-themed mini-games and “additional surprises” including one hinted for one of the weekends during this time. Keep an eye on @minecraft on Twitter for details of that.

If you love your Minecraft and want to try something different or if you love your Sonic the Hedgehog this is worth checking out. Head on over to the Minecraft Marketplace now and grab your Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack and Character Creator item to get ready for the upcoming Minecraft-Sega server event starting next week.
