Two years since the launch of the second generation iPhone SE we are all set for a 3rd generation with Apple announcing an event for next week with the title “Peek Performance”.
While the colourful Apple Logo on the invitation likely refers to the colours of devices to be announced at the event, the performance part is most likely all about ramping up the specs of some key devices in the Apple range.
Firstly, the iPhone SE – the last of the TouchID phones, the body of an iPhone 6 is likely to feature the guts of an iPhone 12 or 13 with serious performance alongside 5G capability.
The SE comes in as the entry level iPhone, launching at $749 in April 2020 at the very start of the pandemic, the iPhone SE is now available for $679. It’s quite possible that device will remain on sale, perhaps at an even lower price, however we can expect the iPhone SE 5G to start at $749 or $799.
In addition, its widely expected Apple will launch more macs with Apple Silicon which could mean a new Mac Mini device and more – and possibly a new M2 processor, second generation Apple silicon.
And finally, the chances are high that the iPad Air will get an update, new colours and the latest A15 Bionic chip for again – Peak Performance:)
It all happens next Wednesday March 9 here in Australia, with the event kicking off at a very reasonable 5am.
