OPPO announces another entry-level A series smartphone, the OPPO A96

The entry-level smartphone segment is an area of the market that we often forget about because, well, the devices don’t get the hype. Often the smartphones in this segment lack some of the high-level specs we see in the flagships but that doesn’t mean you are getting a phone that doesn’t impress.

OPPO is one company which manages to produce quality entry-level smartphones that not just look good but also perform well at an attractive price. They have now added to their list of entry-level A series smartphones with the OPPO A96 retailing at just $399.

The OPPO A96 features a smooth 90Hz 6.59-inch 1080P display which includes OPPO’s Adaptive Refresh Rate Technology. This technology adjusts the refresh rate of the display to match the content on the display at that time, thus extending battery life by minimising the refresh rate when a higher refresh rate is not required.

The phone is powered by a massive 5,000mAh battery which promises to offer full day battery life but if you do get low on power, you can charge the battery at 33W charging speeds thanks to OPPO’s SuperVOOC fast charging. Plug it in for just 30 minutes to get the battery from 0% up to 55%.

The camera on the A96 promises to be no slouch either with a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP camera combined with a 2MP bokeh camera and supports 5x digital zoom. The front camera is a 16MP camera which includes AI features including blemish removal and brighter and clearer low-light portrait shots.

Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G chipset alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB of memory with various software features to improve RAM usage to boost performance and storage. If you need more storage, there is also SD card support.

The OPPO A96 is available now in Starry Black and Sunset Blue for just $399 from JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Bing Lee, Wireless1, Big W, Catch, Kogan, TeleChoice, Amazon, Mobileciti and The Technology Store AU.
