Samsung OLED – you read that right – Samsung OLED TVs launched in Australia

Either hell has frozen over, or Pigs have flown, whatever your go-to metaphor the TV market has changed in Australia with Samsung launching two OLED TVs.

Samsung OLED TVs were revealed at CES in January, but like many announcements there we didn’t give it much thought as it appeared to be a US or Global announcement, but here we are, August 8 and you can order a Samsung OLED TV.

Jeremy Senior from Samsung Australia says “This new TV range from Samsung goes beyond the typical panel technology to provide remarkable entertainment experiences due to true RGB sub-pixels and HDR10+ technology,” said. “Samsung OLED TVs offer the amazing picture quality, incredible colour, and dazzling brightness that Samsung TVs are renowned for.”

“Samsung OLED represents the very cutting-edge in TV technology, while complementing our 2022 range of home entertainment products,” said Senior. “The launch of Samsung OLED reinforces our commitment to delivering the best entertainment experience without compromise for our customers in Australia.”

The Samsung OLED will be available in 55 inch and 65 inch sizes, with Samsung pricing them at $4079 and $5249 respectively.

Those prices are spot on or just under the launch price of LG’s C2 class OLEDs for this year meaning Samsung is aiming fairly and squarely at the OLED buyer who has a brand affiliation with Samsung.

Make no mistake – Samsung getting into the OLED space is a move to strengthen their position in the market but they have years of production capabilities to make up with LG Display the clear manufacturing leader globally.

That won’t likely put them off, because if they can nail this, it will be a blow to LG who’s standout unique selling point has been their outstanding OLED range.

Samsung’s OLED TV’s are different, with a Quantum Dot layer, allowing for a brighter more realistic colour – we’ll await some high-tech analysis side by side with LG on that one.

Samsung OLED are available now in Australia.
