Rakuten Kobo launch the Kobo Clara 2E, an eco-conscious e-reader with storage for over 12,000 e-books

Rakuten Kobo has today announced the new Kobo Clara 2E — their first e-reader to be made with an 85% recycled plastic exterior, from ocean-bound and recycled plastic. This new eco-conscious approach aims to divert more than 200,000 plastic bottles from our oceans and more than a million CDs and DVDs from landfill.

The Kobo Clara 2E incorporates a 6-inch HD E-ink Carta 1200 glare-free display with both Dark Mode and ComfortLight Pro with blue light reduction — perfect for reading late at night without any affect on your sleeping. Add in weeks of battery life and 16GB of storage and you can read to your heart’s content — there is of course also support for audiobooks including Bluetooth.

“Kobo Clara 2E is about living our values: providing a better reading experience while also taking an important step toward sustainability,” said Michael Tamblyn, CEO, Rakuten Kobo. “We believe that each small, thoughtful, and intentionally placed act can make a meaningful impact. So, we’re starting by incorporating recycled materials into the device, accessories and packaging to complement our booklovers’ favourite features, like waterproofing and Bluetooth wireless technology so they can listen to their favourite audiobooks.”

The Kobo Clara 2E is waterproof and has full support for the Kobo Store, library borrowing and Pocket integration for reading from many different sources, including dragging and dropping your own files onto it.

The Kobo Clara 2E will be available at Kobo.com and select retailers for $229.95 from September 22 with pre-orders starting now. To reserve your head on over to Kobo.com and sign up to the pre-order now. while there I would recommend a sleep cover to protect your investment and to also provide a reading stand to your e-reader.
