Google’s 2023 Hardware line up is leaking with Pixel Fold launch date, Pixel 8 Pro renders and more

Google’s hardware line up for 2023 is starting to leak, with details on a launch date for the Pixel 7a and Pixel fold, as well as CAD renders for the Pixel 8 Pro leaking overnight.

The news on the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold via Roland Quandt at Winfuture.de also include the colour options and base storage for both devices, with both devices launching at the beginning of June. 

According to Quandt, the Pixel 7a will launch with 128GB as possibly the only storage option with three (possibly four) colour options: Carbon (Black), Cotton (White), Arctic Blue and possibly Jade. The Pixel Fold on the other hand will launch with 256GB of base storage, with the phone coming in either Carbon (Black) or Porcelain (White). 

Previously, the pricing of the Pixel Fold has been estimated at €1,700 (about $2,730 AUD), while the Pixel 7a is more budget friendly at €500 (around $800 AUD).

With the phone apparently launching in June, it’s likely we’ll be hearing about the details during the Google I/O keynote in early May, with the launch date announced then. 

If you’re not into foldables, or the budget Pixel A-series, then the upcoming Pixel 8 Pro is likely for you. Overnight, notorious leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer via his Onleaks Twitter account has leaked renders of the Pixel 8 Pro based on CAD drawings.

According to the leak, the Pixel 8 Pro will have a 6.52-inch display with Google apparently eschewing the curved screen of previous Pixel Pro models for a flat panel. 

The Pixel 8 Pro renders show a triple camera array, but the other news is the new sensor showing in the Camera bar on the rear beneath the flash. Discussion surrounding its purpose ranges from macro or depth sensors, through to LIDAR, which given Google’s previous history playing with the tech is a real possibility.

Other tidbits from the leak lists the phone dimensions as 162.6×76.5×8.7mm, with a thickness of 12mm at the camera bar, and also says the phone is expected to use a third generation of Tensor processor based on the Exynos 2300 processor. 

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to be announced at Google’s annual October ‘Made by Google’ hardware event, though we could also see the phones shown briefly at Google I/O as we saw at last years keynote.
