Samsung have announced that their next foldable phones will be announced next month with the event set to be held in their home country of South Korea for the first time.
Since the first Galaxy Unpacked kicked off over a decade ago in Las Vegas in March 2010, Samsung has announced products in ‘key’ cities around the world including Barcelona, New York, London and Berlin, with the 27th Unpacked event coming home to Seoul.
The Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in Seoul at COEX, a location where South Korea’s domestic startups emerge from and a millenial Buddhist temple converge. TM Roh, President and head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics said
“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences. Hosting unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.
The selection of Seoul as the host city for the event is due to Samsung shifting its direction for Unpacked for foldable devices to ‘focus on different trend-leading cultural cities around the globe that closely align with the designated theme of each event. THis year Seoul was selected because of its role in influencing global trends with its dynamic culture and innovation, while it also reflects Samsung’s strong confidence in the foldable category’.
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 at the event, both of which are expected to see a new hinge design, with the Z Flip5 expected to see a larger cover display. We’re also likely to see more wearables including a new Galaxy Watch 6 running WearOS which is rumoured to see the physical rotating bezel return, as well as packing a newer updated processor.
We’ll find out more on the date of the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event soon and we will of course be bringing you all the news from the event as it happens.
