ASUS ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro announced with a new design

ASUS have also announced the latest ROG Phone 8  and ROG Phone 8 Pro alongside their new Zephyrus and STRIX hardware. 

The ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro are making a design change from previous models, with a slimmer and lighter design. The new design of the ROG Phone 8 includes slimmer bezels all round while still including a large 6.78” LTPO display which can support up to 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a Samsung E6 AMOLED panel which offers up brilliant colour reproduction and and up to 2500 nits peak brightness.

The ROG Phone 8 series is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and as you’d expect it still comes with crazy memory with options for up to 24GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage in the ROG Phone 8 Pro. 

The phone will come with a 5500mAh dual-cell battery and comes with dual USB-C ports (one on the side and one on the base) and support Qi (1.3) wireless charging.

ASUS ROG have been slowly improving their phone camera quality on the ROG phone series and the ROG Phone 8 is no different. There’s a triple camera setup on the rear of the phone including a 50MP main sensor, 32MP telephoto sensor and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. 

The 50MP camera utilises a Sony IMX890 sensor which is mounted on the 6-axis gimbal from the Zenfone 10 which includes adaptive Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS). The 32MP telephoto sensor includes Optical Image Stabilisation with a 3x Optical zoom, that can also branch out to 10x and 30x with their HyperClarity digital zoom. The 13MP ultrawide camera has a 120° field of view with a free-form lens system which can minimise distortion.

Lastly there’s a 32MP Selfie Camera with 90-degree field of view hidden in the display of the phone.

The ROG Phones have had some fantastic sound and the ROG Phone 8 is no different. The phones retain their 3.5mm headphone jack so you can still plug in your headphones. The phones support Hi-Res Audio, with DIRAC tuning on audio, including on headphones. 

The ROG phone dials back some of the ‘sci-fi’ look with the option to turn off all the RGB lighting effects, but still retains the wildly powerful internals we’ve come to expect from the ROG phone series – though there’s still a mini-LED AniMe Vision Display on the rear.

In terms of availability, ASUS are opening pre-orders for the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro in February – though we’ll see more details on local availability and pricing closer to launch.
