Suzuki Jimny XL Five-Door Heritage Edition: So faithful to the retro theme, it’s manual only

Suzuki Australia has released 500 examples of the new Jimny XL Five-Door, with retro graphics, rally-red mudflaps – and in true retro style it is only available with a five-speed manual transmission.

The last time Suzuki did a Heritage edition of the Jimny it was for 500 three-door manuals in early 2023 – and they sold out within five hours.

Now it has brought the Heritage pack to its just-released Suzuki Jimny XL five-door model.

It has the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine as the rest of the Jimny range (75kW/130Nm), paired to a five-speed manual transmission.

The latest Heritage edition also comes with an all-weather covering for the boot floor, and a merchandise pack.

The 2024 Suzuki Jimny XL Five-Door Heritage edition is $1500 more than the standard Jimny XL Five-Door manual, priced from $36,490 before on-road costs.

This equates to just shy of $40,000 drive-away, depending on registration and stamp duty charges in each state.

The special edition comes as sales of the Suzuki Jimny hit record highs in Australia since the arrival of the five-door model, which currently accounts for the majority of sales as three-door deliveries still stretch from six to 12 months.

Suzuki Australia is working with Japan to secure as many Jimnys as possible – sourcing the three-door from Japan and the five-door from Suzuki’s massive manufacturing facility in India.

The Suzuki Jimny five-door has some advantages over the three-door, beyond the two extra doors, the larger cargo area and the longer wheelbase.

It also has a larger, higher resolution infotainment screen, and twin cameras for the autonomous emergency braking system (rather than the single camera AEB set-up on the three-door).

EFTM has recently tested both the manual and automatic versions of the Suzuki Jimny XL Five-Door.

Check back soon for the road tests.
