Google announces hardware event for August 13 – Pixel 9, Watch 3 and more

Google have announced their annual Made by Google event, with invites heading out to press for an event to be held on August 13.

The invites were sent out alongside a more public announcement in the form of a teaser for Google’s Gemini AI, titled ‘AI… meet IX at Made by Google’ – a clear teaser for the Pixel IX9 series which has already been leaking.

The event itself will take place in San Francisco at 10AM Pacific Time – that’s 3AM on August 14th for those of you playing here at home in Australia, with the event set to be live-streamed on the Made by Google YouTube channel

While the hint at the Pixel 9 series – which will come in three sizes this year according to leaks – is pretty obvious, we also expect to see the Pixel Watch 3, as well as whatever else Google has to offer, which could include a new foldable phone, rebranded to the Pixel Fold 9 Pro, as well as possibly new earbuds with Pixel Buds Pro 2.

The August 13 is a couple of months earlier than we normally expect Google to unveil their new hardware, which has previously happened around October. There’s always been talk about Google needing to move their event to earlier in the year to better capitalise on hardware, though this could be more focused on new AI enhancements – but we’ll have to wait and see.

We’ll have all the details of the new Made by Google devices in the early hours of August 14th.
