The popular Chromecast with Google TV will be four years old this year, and it seems Google is set to change things up with the next version which will be more of a streaming box than a dongle according to a new leak.
The leak, from 9to5Google shows the new device, which they say will be called the ‘Google TV Streamer’, indicating that Google is also moving away from the Chromecast name as well as the design.
The Google TV Streamer appears to be a relatively small, pill shaped box that slopes down from the back to front, though looks similar to Google’s current TV dongles but in a desktop format.
The unit will include a remote that looks mostly similar to the compact unit that came with the Chromecast with Google TV, though the volume rocker has been moved from the side to the face of the remote.
There’s no information on internal specs, but we hope Google has addressed some of the concerns of the Chromecast with Google TV including the limited storage and processing speed.
Exactly when we’ll see more on the Google TV Streamer isn’t known, but we’re possibly going to find out a lot more in a couple of weeks at the upcoming Made by Google event in the wee hours of August 14th.
