The Chevrolet Corvette portfolio of top-end supercars has expanded in Australia with the long-anticipated arrival of the E-Ray hybrid model just months after the first deliveries of the Z06.
First Australian deliveries of the Corvette E-Ray are due to commence this month.
With a V8 nestled behind the driver’s seat and an electric motor to power the front wheels, the Corvette E-Ray Hybrid does 0 to 60mph (97kmh) in a claimed 2.5 seconds.
If this time can be matched in the real world it would make the latest Corvette to arrive in Australia even faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and not far off the acceleration of the original Bugatti Veyron, once the world’s fastest car.
In Australia the Corvette E-Ray is priced from $275,000 plus on-road costs, which is $100,000 dearer than the non-hybrid Corvette V8 ($175,000 plus on-road costs) and $61,000 less than the Z06 ($336,000 plus on road costs).
Standard equipment in Australia includes race-bred carbon-ceramic brakes, high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, magnetically-controlled suspension and a modest rear spoiler.
