AI Generated wallpaper for your Samsung TV coming later this year

With AI everywhere in our lives right now and almost every product on the market launching with some form of Artificial Intelligence it was no surprise to see AI dominate the showcased products at most of the large brands exhibiting at IFA Berlin 2024.

And not all the AI was on show for the world to see. EFTM was invited behind closed doors to Samsung’s Innovation room where they showed off a feature coming to all 2024 Samsung TVs in a software update later this year.

The new feature is called “Generative Wallpaper” and will be found in the Ambient Mode settings.

This area is where you can choose from curated images and slow moving videos to display on the TV when you’re not watching something. It’s almost a precursor to The Frame concept, but also just a nice way to decorate a room if you’ve got people around and don’t want the TV blaring.

Using cloud based AI servers, Samsung will allow you to create your own wallpaper with just a few simple prompts.

The system is not as open as something like ChatGPT or Gemini’s image generation, instead the Samsung AI Generator is a simple point and click choice from several questions – and it’s all done via the TV and TV remote.

It’s a really simple process, and happened fast.

Each time you do it you’re presented with three options, you can choose to regenerate from the same prompts, or restart entirely.

Or, if you like it, click to download the image onto your TV.

That image is then saved in your Ambient Mode home screen

My only feedback to the team at Samsung was that generating short, looped, slow moving video in the same manner could also be a stunning addition to the Ambient mode and complement the existing collection of content on the TV.

If you own a 2024 TV, fingers crossed for a software update in the next few months.
