Nintendo finally unveils larger Switch 2 console launching later this year

After months of speculation and leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 is now official, with Nintendo unveiling the console this morning – though some of the finer details are still unknown.

Announced overnight, there’s not a lot of information about the Switch 2, with a full showcase expected in a Nintendo Direct on April 2nd to share what we hope is a full spec list. In the meantime, 

In the meantime, Nintendo have released a trailer for the Switch 2 and it’s got some juicy details to take away. 

For a start the Switch 2 looks larger, with a larger display and what appears to be a new connector mechanism for the JoyCons which look to connect magnetically. There’s also a new kickstand built-in so you can place your Switch on a flat surface – and a second USB-C port for multiple inputs or charging. 

Games

While it’s not officially announced, the end of the trailer appears to have a new Mario Kart game which was shown off in the trailer. Nintendo has a host of their own IP to build on for the launch of a Switch 2 – Zelda Breath of the Wild was a tentpole of the original Switch launch, and we expect to see a lot more popping up for launch. 

Nintendo Switch 2 Experience

While we don’t know the release date or price of the Switch 2, Nintendo will be getting the console into the hands of Australian gamers through a Nintendo Switch 2 Experience event in Melbourne on May 10th – 11th, with registrations open from Jan 18 – 26th. 

We’ll have a more on the Switch 2 after the Nintendo Direct showcase on April 2nd – but we know Nintendo intends to release the console this year so hold tight.
