Samsung were the first to formally announce their “thin” phone, but Apple is coming in hot with their version later this year – we’ll never know who came up with the idea first but it appears Samsung will be the first to capitalise.
We’ve got exclusive hands on access to a dummy model of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, a device that has been shown to media until now only behind barriers and on display.
Similar to the iPhone dummies we’ve received for many years, this Samsung model is made by Chinese factories using leaked information ahead of the device’s release. The dummy models allow case manufacturers to ready their protective accessories in time for the device launching in market.
There’s no official launch date slated by Samsung yet, but given the upcoming release schedule for their other devices – such as their 2026 Foldable range – it seems certain Samsung will launch the S25 Edge in early to mid-May.

From the dummy model we can tell you the Samsung S25 Edge is 0.2mm thicker than the iPhone 17 Air, though it’s hard, near impossible to tell the difference.
Samsung’s camera bump protrudes about 1mm less than Apple, and Samsung has maintained at least a dual camera on their super thin phone.
It’s the year of the Ozempic phone, an answer to a question nobody ever asked? Or is there a huge demand for thin and light phones?
