Samsung launches new glasses-free 3D and OLED Odyssey gaming monitors

Samsung is expanding their range of Odyssey gaming monitors, with the launch of the new Odyssey 3D and the Odyssey OLED G8, both of which are now available to pre-order in Australia.

Odyssey 3D

The 27” Odyssey 3D (G90XF) is a 4K resolution IPS display and showcases Samsung’s display tech, using eye-tracking and a proprietary lenticular lens to bring a glasses-free 3D gaming experience offering a ‘natural-looking high-definition 3D image’.

To showcase the Odyssey 3D, Samsung has launched their RealityHub for accessing games and videos, and they’re working with game makers like Neople who are offering a 3D experience in their game Nexon for The First Berserker: Khazan. Gamers will also be  able to experience the 3D visuals in the DLC Neowiz for game Lies of P which will launch in the second half of the year.

Samsung is also offering an AI video conversion tool which can transform video content into 3D, with the AI analysing each frame to produce a 3D effect with less eye strain. There’s also built-in dual speakers which offer directional sound to enhance the 3D experience in videos and games.

Gamers will appreciate the 1ms GtG response with support for up to 165Hz refresh rate and support for both AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC for smooth, screen tear free gaming.

Odyssey OLED G8

For gamers who prefer OLED panels with their rich colours and deep blacks, the new Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF) offers 4K resolution in both 27” and 32” sizes at up to 240Hz refresh rate.

Using QD-OLED technology, the Odyssey OLED G8 has wide viewing angles up to 178˚ with VESA Display HDR True Black rating and can get up to 250 nits brightness, with glare free technology included to reduce reflections.

The display supports a fast 0.03ms GtG response and also supports both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC.

The Odyssey OLED G8 includes Samsung’s OLED Safeguard+ cooling feature which uses a pulsating heat pipe and a thermal modulation system to remove heat while controlling the brightness, and protecting your display from burn-in.

Availability and Pricing

Both the Odyssey 3D and Odyssey OLED G8 are available to pre-order now, with shipping for all models starting from 22nd of April.

For anyone wanting to grab an Odyssey 3D you can pre-order now on the Samsung website for $2,999. The OLED G8 27” is priced at $1,799, while the Odyssey OLED G8 32” is priced at $1,999 and you can check them out here
