You will soon be able to control your Roborock robot vacuum with the Home app on your Apple device

Roborock are rolling out an update to select robot vacuums that will make them Matter compatible, and thus able to be controlled using the Apple Home app on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod or Mac.

The Matter smart home protocol allows the unity of devices across different brands and platforms to all be controlled by each platform. The Matter upgrade to some Roborock vacuums ensures they can communicate easily with other smart home devices (and smart assistants) regardless of the manufacturer.

The list of Roborock robot vacuums that will be receiving the Matter upgrade at this stage can be seen in the image below:

Robot vacuums not listed but expected to receive the Matter upgrade in the “upcoming weeks and months” are the S8 Max Ultra and the Qrevo Slim, with more models coming soon.

The new upgrade will allow you to add the compatible Roborock robot vacuum to your Apple Home, allowing it to be controlled by Siri. At this stage, “specific Matter-related functionality may vary not only by Roborock device, but also by ecosystem.” Expect to see more upgrades to the Matter-related firmware in the coming months.

If you have received this update to your compatible Roborock robot vacuum, you can now add it to your Apple Home app and add it to a custom automation or ask Siri to “clean the kitchen.” For more information, visit the Roborock website.
