Google is rolling out their AI enabled search mode in Australia

AI is becoming a part of our every day lives, and it’s going to be part of your search going forward with Google’s AI Mode now rolling out in Australia.

Announced at their developer conference in May, AI Mode promises a more comprehensive search result from even more complex queries.

At this stage AI Mode will live in as a separate search tab, showing up on desktop and mobile devices.

AI Mode uses a custom Gemini Model, AI Mode which encourages longer queries for things like trip planning, or understanding complex subjects – basically things which would normally have taken multiple searches, so when you search in AI Mode you can chain together a request, like asking for it to ‘Create a walkable itinerary for my friends and I in Melbourne this Saturday. We want to cafe hop at some lesser known specialty coffee shops, visit art galleries, and see local street art.” or ask for help understanding a new subject with more complex results and explanations like “I want to understand the different coffee brewing methods. Make a table comparing the differences in taste, ease of use, and the equipment needed..”.

Google’s AI Mode also lets you ask follow-up questions like “What’s the best grind size for each method?” with the context kept so you can keep queries going into a conversation.

AI mode also offers multimodal search using text voice or images. This multimodal search can take in information from your screen, your voice or camera, so it feels more naturally like you’re talking to an AI Assistant as part of a conversation.

Google says early users are already adopting the more complex searches and multimodality, with queries up to three times longer than traditional search.

AI Mode is rolling out now in Australia, and you should be able to find it at the end of your search bar.
