motorola moto g06 lands in Australia with a massive display and battery for under $200

Motorola have announced their latest budget friendly phone, with the moto g06 going on-sale today offering the largest display ever on a moto g device, and more, while still coming in at under $200.

The moto g06 also offers an advanced audio system with stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos tuning delivering immersive, spatial audio and Bass Boost, as well as a 50MP AI powered camera on the rear for a great value phone priced at just $179.

Praveena Raman, Head of Motorola, ANZ said,

“Motorola has always been committed to offering Australians advanced features and purposeful design at an accessible price point. The moto g06 embodies this commitment. We’ve focused on elevating the things users care about most, including display size, battery life and entertainment quality, without compromising on affordability.”

The 6.88” display is massive on this budget device, and comes with a surprisingly high 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling. The display also offers water touch mode, so you can use it while your hands are wet and a bright display capable of up to 600nits so you can see the screen in sunlight.

Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme processor with 12GB of RAM which is bolstered by Motorola’s RAM Boost – which can use unused storage as temporary swap space for faster performance. It also comes with 64GB of storage and a microSD card slot to expand storage if you need.

The phone includes a 5,200mAh battery for all-day battery life, and comes with a battery care mode which will protect your battery from over-charging – with Motorola saying the battery will retain over 80 percent of its original capacity, even after 1,000 cycles (Charges).

You may want more storage with a big 50MP sensor on the rear offering great clarity and detail. The quad-pixel sensor stacks data for a sharp, vibrant photo, and Motorola also includes AI tools through Google Photos, giving you access to tools including Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and more.

There’s an IP64 rating on the phone, so you can get some peace of mind if you want to use the phone while your hands are wet, or in a light rain shower, and also includes Gorilla Glass 3 on the display for added durability.

The phone will arrive with Android 15, which includes a host of features from Motorola and Google, including Circle to Search which lets you circle, highlight, scribble, or tap any image, video, or text when searching with just a quick gesture on the screen. You also get access to Motorola’s ThinkShield security and privacy protection.

Unfortunately it looks like you get only two years of Software Maintenance Releases (security updates), and Motorola has not promised any OS updates.

If you want to get your hands on the moto g06, you can grab it in three colours: PANTONE Tapestry, PANTONE Arabesque and PANTONE Tendril.

Availability of colours will vary store-to-store, so check your local, you can find it at JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Big W, Bing Lee, and MobileCiti for 9 RRP.
