We’ve reviewed a few Tineco wet-dry vacuums in the past 12 months or so, and on the surface, they all look the same. Dig a bit deeper, though, and you will see subtle differences that allow different models to specialise in various other areas.
The FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch that Tineco sent us to check out differs from the FLOOR ONE S7 Steam that we reviewed earlier this year in two main ways – the Stretch can lie flat while cleaning, and also does not have the steam functionality.
The Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch features Tineco’s “180° Lay-flat Design and HyperStretch Technology for easy manoeuvrability and cleaning under beds and low-lying furniture” as low as just 13cm off the floor.
Other features include a DualBlock Anti-Tangle Design that scrapes the roller to prevent hair from tangling. As for the vacuuming part of the equation, the FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch delivers up to 21,000Pa of suction, ensuring an effective clean of all surfaces.
The set-up is incredibly simple, with the three main pieces being the mopping section and water reservoir area, the base that the whole vacuum sits on when not in use and the handle. The handle clicks into place easily to make a set-up that takes all of 20 seconds.
Charge it up, and you are good to go. If you wish to customise the clean, you can connect the vacuum to the Tineco app, but this is not essential for other cleaning modes. The possible modes include Custom, Auto (for basic cleaning), Max (for heavy smudge cleaning), and Suction (for water and mess suction).
Navigating the floor with the device isn’t super easy given its size, but it is aided by a 45-degree swivel that lets it be manoeuvred left and right. Don’t expect it to be as easy to use as your old-school mop with a wooden handle.
At first, I cleaned the floor without installing the app, and it worked just fine. I was only using it for a spot clean but it was able to clean up everything I threw at such as gravy, jam, Vegemite, cordial and more. Now, it didn’t clean the Vegemite off the floor as fast as the steam version did, but it got there in the end. This was all on Auto mode so I could see if it really adjusted the speeds for heavier spills — on Max mode, the heavier smears were cleaned faster.
The app though is essential if you want to change how the vacuum cleans or customise the clean to what the spill is. There is also a product manual in the app but unfortunately, I could get that to view properly.
The FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch also includes Tineco’s iLoop Smart Sensor, which detects the floor’s dirtiness and automatically adjusts suction power and water flow. You can hear it do this as it goes from one mess to another, all the while providing for a thorough clean.
The battery life on these wet dry vacuums is never great but if you are taking more than 50 minutes (expected battery life as per Tineco on the lowest cleaning setting/mode) to clean a floor you need to get a move on.
You really cannot use one of these for your carpets but for hard floors it is perfect. There aren’t many folks with hard floors that take that long to clean (you’d have to have a massive 0 million ballroom likely), so the battery life is sufficient for what it needs to accomplish.
Once you have finished using the FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch, it will speak to you and remind you to empty the dirty water tank to prevent odours and if the mop is dirty, will suggest you perform a clean of it by a single press of the button on the handle.
The cleaning of the vacuum is relatively quick and involves cleaning the roller with heated water, followed by a five-minute drying with 85℃ air.
The Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch is a good floor cleaner that can also reach under furniture as low as 13cm off the ground, making it an incredibly flexible appliance that will clean the most stubborn of spills. I’ve had better floor cleaners, such as the Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Steam, but this one is highly versatile.
The setup is simple, and using it is even simpler. You can use the app if you wish but it is not required. Just turn the wet and dry vacuum on, select the setting you want and off you go. When you are done, place it on the dock, empty the dirty water tank and clean the mop with a single button press.
The Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch is available in Black for 9 from Tineco Online Store, JB HiFi, The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Retravision, Mobileciti, Tech Sales Online and Mydeal. There is also a Deluxe version in Dark Blue available at the same price, exclusively through Harvey Norman.
