Apple Watch mobile plan available on Tangerine – first non-network telco to offer it!

Since the Apple Watch launched with the ability to share your number from your phone to your watch and make calls and use data on the watch even when you didn’t have your phone with you. The problem is, only Telstra, Optus and Vodafone customers could setup the shared number on Apple Watch (or Samsung Watch) – until now.

Turns out, under the radar Aussie telco Tangerine has started offering the Shared Number plan for Apple Watch and various Samsung Galaxy Watches too.

UPDATE: Looks like Telstra Wholesale MVNO’s are able to get in on this action with Woolies Everyday Mobile also offering the plan.

For Tangerine customers the Shared Number add-on is $10 per month, and is only available on their “5G Plans” – which only rules out their cheapest plan.

Right now, you could get a Tangerine plan with 60GB of data for $15 per months for the first six months, $30 a month thereafter, making the ongoing monthly cost with a Shared Number on watch just $40 per month.

Compare that to the other telcos.

Optus’ most affordable plan is $40 a month for 12 months then $55 – add $5 for the watch and you’re up for $60 a month.

Telstra offers $5 a month watch plans, their lowest monthly cost plan is $70 making it at $75 cost per month, while Vodafone’s cheapest is $39 a month for 12 months, and $53 after that, plus the watch makes it $58 per month.

To top it all off, Tangerine operates on the Telstra Network.

Great deal. Get on it.
