Samsung reveals Galaxy Z TriFold with 10-inch display for ultimate mobile multitasking

Samsung has expanded their range of folding phones, announcing the Galaxy Z TriFold, their first triple pane device which is set to launch next year.

The Galaxy Z TriFold, as the name suggests is a triple folding phone with Titanium Housing and Advanced Armor Aluminum Frame protecting both hinges.

The TriFold design is designed to last,  including IP48 dust and water protection, with a Ceramic-Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer rear cover and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.

The phone has the same 6.5-inch FHD+ external display as the Galaxy Z Fold7, however the Galaxy Z TriFold will fold out into a massive 10” QXGA+ resolution display, with both displays offering 120Hz refresh, which can scale down to 1Hz for improved power consumption..

The phone will have a slightly thicker profile when folded, measuring 12.9 mm – a step above the 8.9mm of the Galaxy Z Fold7. Unfolded, the phone has a slightly different thickness across the three panes – 3.9mm for the display with the SIM, 4.2mm for the centre display and 4mm for the display with the side button.

The expanded 10” display will allow for improved multi-tasking with the panel performing similarly to three 6.5” displays, letting you run three different portrait sized apps side-by-side – resizing them as you like. The phone will even keep the re-sized app setup if a call interrupts, letting you quickly hit the icons from the taskbar to jump back in.

The Galaxy Z TriFold large inner display will also let you run Samsung’s Desktop like environment: DeX. In DeX, you can expand apps, letting you run four workspaces that can each run five apps simultaneously, and if that’s not enough you can even attach an external display, even connecting a keyboard and mouse.

The additional display and features will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy with 16GB of memory, and two storage options: 512GB or 1TB.

There will be five cameras on the Galaxy Z TriFold, with 10MP sensors embedded in the inner display and outer display, with a triple camera array including a 200 MP main sensor alongside a 10MP sensor with 3x telephoto zoom  and a 12MP sensor with 120˚ultrawide field of view.

All of this will be powered by a 5,600mAh battery which supports 45 W fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

In terms of availability, Samsung says the phone will launch first in South Korea on Dec 12th, followed by a launch in other markets next year.

Australia hasn’t been announced as yet, with only China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the U.S specifically called out. Normally we do see promotions on the Samsung Australia website, but there’s nothing showing as yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.
