Google expands AI-powered Search Live to Australia bringing conversational searching

Google have announced they are expanding their AI-powered Search Live multi-modal search option in Australia from today, bringing interactive conversations with Search in AI Mode.

The feature expands the Search in AI Mode which launched in Australia back in October last year, with the AI Mode adding in a more conversational approach to search, akin to Gemini Live. The Search Live feature lets you search using your voice and even your camera to talk through a query.

Using the new audio and voice model, Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, to power the conversations. Google says the new model offers ‘even more natural and intuitive conversations’ which are multilingual, supporting up to 98 languages.

As well as search, Google is hoping users start shopping with Search Live, with options to search visually and find items, with the response able to show details including price, reviews and inventory information.

The feature is live now for Australians in the Google app. To use Search Live you can open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the Live icon under the Search bar. Google says you can also use Search Live when using Google Lens by hitting the Live option at the bottom of the screen.
