Update: Registrations now open – Microsoft will bring FanFest to Sydney as part of 25th Anniversary tour

Microsoft has had a rough couple of years with Xbox, but with a change of leadership and refocusing on the Xbox brand – they’re bringing back Xbox FanFest as a tour with an event scheduled for Sydney later this year.

It’s part of the 25th anniversary of Xbox, with Microsoft setting FanFest events for Sydney as well as Cologne (Germany), London (UK), Mexico City (Mexico), Seattle (USA). Tokyo (Japan), and Toronto (Canada). 

What we’ll see at the event hasn’t been announced, though Microsoft has said that ‘Each FanFest event will be unique to the location’. 

Previously Microsoft has run trivia and gaming competitions with prizes up for grabs at FanFest, as well as including photo ops like the giant 10 foot Grounded 2 plush ant which showed up at the Xbox FanFest at GamesCom last year.

There will be more details on the individual FanFest events, with Microsoft launching a microsite to register your interest, as well as enter a competition to attend the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase event in Los Angeles which will air at 3am AEST on June 8th.

Registrations for a chance to attend Xbox FanFest in Sydney are now open HERE and will close on Wednesday, 16 September @ 4PM AEST. Microsoft says that tickets to the event will be awarded through a sweepstakes with limited spots available. If selected to attend, fans will receive an invitation and full registration details.

It’s been about 10 years since Microsoft last hosted an Xbox FanFest in Sydney. At the event, Microsoft says fans can expect ‘in-person experiences that bring the worlds of XBOX to life, like dedicated XBOX game rooms, developer meet-and-greets, trivia challenges and so much more, all designed for players to connect with one another’.

The XBOX FanFest Tour kicked off in Los Angeles at the XBOX Games Showcase in June, with Sydney another stop on a global run of FanFest events designed to build community bringing local fans together and celebrating XBOX’s 25th anniversary by showcasing the iconic games, franchises, players and moments that have shaped XBOX over the past 25 years.
