Technology doesn’t rest, so it should be no surprise that Wifi 8 is on the horizon and TP-Link is today announcing their first Wi-Fi 8 router platform built around the emerging IEEE 802.11bn standard.
Called Archer 8, the platform will launch alongside WiFi 8 later this year. The new standard is designed to address real-world problems, offering a more stable, and lower latency connection which is designed to help with increasingly dense, device-heavy home networks in our homes.
Neville Wang, Managing Director, TP-Link Australia and New Zealand said
“Wi-Fi has always been sold on peak speed, but that is not what households experience day to day. What people actually notice is the dropout in the back bedroom, the lag when the whole family is on at once, the video call that freezes when someone else hits a stream. Archer 8 is engineered for those conditions, and the early lab data tells us it is a meaningful step forward for the homes we connect.”
During their testing of WiFi 8 in lab conditions, the TP-Link team have found increases across the board, including an up to 33% higher throughput which will bring faster and more stable speeds at longer range, and up to 30% signal-performance improvement when set up in multi-storey environments.
They also saw improvements to coverage with a 1 to 3 dB improvement on the 5GHz and 6GHz wifi bands meaning more reliable coverage across your home.
The Archer 8 platform will include multiple devices when they officially launch, with the Archer 8 Wi-Fi 8 Router taking centre stage. TP-Link will also offer a WiFi 8 Mesh option with Deco, as well as the Roam 8 travel router so you can take your WiFi 8 speeds on the go. You’ll also be able to grab Wi-Fi 8 range extenders and adapters so you can make use of the improvements.
There’s no pricing or availability for the devices in Australia and New Zealand, but we’ll see more details on devices and of course local pricing closer to launch.
