Insta360 Luna Ultra Debuts in Australia With 1-Inch Sensor and 8K Video

After teasing their DJI Osmo competitor in April, Insta360 has today announced the Luna Ultra is now available to purchase in Australia.

The Luna Ultra will come in a choice of Cosmic Black and Stellar White, and use Leica’s Summicron lenses in front of a 1″ sensor capable of capturing 8K video at 30fps with Dolby Vision. The gimbal camera uses a 3-axis stabilisation system with Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) to ensure a steady shot.

There’s a secondary telephoto camera on-board using a 1/1.3″ sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and can zoom in for up to 6x lossless shots and up to 12× zoom in total.

The sensor can capture not only video, but still shots as well, capturing 37MP still shots as well as 200MP panoramic pictures.

Insta360 has also included a built-in wind guard to help cut down on background noise, or you can purchase and pair the new Insta360 Mic Pro for even better sound.

There’s a removable 2” OLED touch display on-board which gives you the opportunity to control the camera remotely from up to 20 metres away – but also includes AI tracking to keep you, or the subject in-frame.

The 1550mAh battery on-board can last up to four hours of recording, but you can then recharge to 80% in just 23 minutes according to Insta360.

The camera has 47GB of usable storage space on-board, however you can further expand this with microSD cards with the camera supporting cards up to 1TB in size.

Footage taken from the camera will be easy to edit in  Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, with timecodes built-in to the files so you can do multi-camera shots and remain in sync.

Max Richter, VP of Marketing and Co-Founder of Insta360.

“Luna Ultra marks Insta360’s arrival in the gimbal camera space, backed by the full strength of our imaging expertise. We believe this category is ready for a new standard, defined by smarter technology, stronger performance, and a more intuitive user experience. Luna reflects our vision for the future of gimbal imaging, built to help people capture what matters with greater ease, confidence, and authenticity.”

The Insta360 Luna Ultra is now available in Australia with pricing starting at AU$1,229.99. You can check it out online through the Insta360 Store, Amazon, JB Hi-Fi as well as selected retailers.
