Midea Showcases Smart Master AI Ecosystem at IFA in Berlin

At IFA in Berlin, smart home company Midea is showcasing some of their latest releases that will bring more thoughtful technology to the home.

The “Simply ideal” showcase is powered by Midea’s Smart Master AI-powered home ecosystem which powers everything from their intelligent standalone appliances to integrated whole-home AI solutions.

For their own Smart Home solution – Midea says that the heart of the system is the Midea ‘AI Agent’, which ‘lets appliances understand what users say, interpret their needs and respond naturally.’

The system is available in 140 languages, recognising voices within an 8-metre radius of their air conditioner, refrigerator and built-in oven.

Midea also supports their AI agent in the Midea app, as well as across the car and in smart speakers and voice assistants through integration with Google Home, Alexa, and more. Midea’s on-board AI Agent includes multiple sub-agents which can act under a single command, or independently at different times – with Midea saying a ‘Welcome Home’ mode can activate several agents:

Comfort Agent to coordinate air conditioning, humidification and laundry. At dinnertime, Health Agent uses ingredients in the refrigerator to suggest meals and coordinate cooking appliances. Throughout the day, Efficiency Agent helps manage energy across the home, while Service Agent responds when an appliance needs attention, from maintenance and fault guidance to after-sales support and real-time video assistance.

At their booth at IFA, Smart Master will showcase the new Midea Robot, bringing their AI into the physical space.

The robots will showcase handling tableware, dishes and more. Prepping popcorn to hand out to visitors, all the while performing moves like waving or dancing. The robots use MIDEA’s EAGLES system architecture with the one AI-controlled brain combined with  four multimodal foundation models that support different applications in the home including kitchen assistance, laundry, cleaning, companionship and whole-home control.

In the background, there’s also Midea’s AI ECOMASTER which can co-ordinate your appliances to use solar power when available or stored power if the price per/kW increases during the day. The system learns your household routines and adapts to fit so it works for you.

One of the bigger announcements was from Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, introducing Matter at Midea’s booth, highlighting its open, secure, interoperable framework and Midea’s role in advancing smart appliance connectivity. Midea hasn’t announced time-frames or how it will integrate – but Matter is on the cards.

Midea will showcase their range of everyday appliances across three zones, including the Midea’s R290 Series Heat Pump, for cooling and heating.

They’ll showcase their InfiniteFit Series hobs in a kitchen setup, including the PizzaPro built-in oven. The oven includes an 81L capacity and a rapid heating feature that gets your food cooked more efficiently.

Midea has also introduced their Tri-GreenApex System in their dishwasher system. The dishwasher is environmentally friendly, using around 50% less energy than required for Europe’s highest A rating.

Midea will also show off their Visionary Series refrigerators including GlassVision offering hands-free lighting and clear, even illumination.

Lastly, in the laundry, Midea is showcasing their OMNI series, offering flexible combinations to suit a range of different household needs. The range of laundry appliances includes multi-drum solutions which Midea says will allow for different garment-care needs, letting separate loads to run at the same time.

Lastly, if you watch any European football, Midea has entered into a five-year partnership with FC Barcelona starting this season.

The partnership will see the Midea logo appear on the club’s matchday and training kit, shirt sleeves for the first time. You’ll also see the Midea branding when they play fixtures at their  La Liga home.
