Pre-orders for the all-new iPhone Duo kicked off last night and for many waking up wanting to order Apple’s new foldable iPhone there’s a second shock that comes after the initial Sticker Shock of the minimum $3,499 price tag. The delivery date!
If you’re ordering at Apple’s website you’ll see a shipping date of January 25 – that’s 100 days from now!
Even if you’re willing to stump up the $5,899 for the 2TB storage model of the iPhone Duo that 100 day wait time still exists!
There’s no word on why, but we’d safely assume two factors here. Firstly a limited supply in the first place – this is an all-new product which Apple will likely be controlling the factory output of for quality control purposes, as well as having to battle for parts supply.
Secondly, there’s demand! Despite the price – people are keen for the iPhone Duo.
Here’s a tip – shop around.
Head to JB Hi-Fi and you’ll find that while you might not get it on October 23 the launch day, you could get it much faster than Apple themselves can deliver. For us, the local date looks like early November.
And then there’s the Telcos. And here’s your moment, here’s your chance to switch and win.
Don’t be so rusted on – so if your Telco can’t deliver on time, try another one!
Telstra has a vaugue delivery estimate of 4+ weeks after launch – that’s not something I’d be keen on
For me, I was able to track down a really early date for iPhone Duo in the largest storage configuration at Vodafone.
And for the entry level $3,499 iPhone Duo, somewhere in November, still far better than from Apple Direct!
The wildest option is to queue up. Plenty of people would never dare, but perhaps on Friday next week we’ll see more people than ever at the Apple Stores across Australia in the hope that there’s enough “walk-in” stock for buyers.
Apple certainly does have “stock” on launch day, but it will be limited, so that’s a risk you take!
