Google has expanded their portfolio of fitness devices today with the launch of the Fitbit Edge including the latest health and fitness tools with an always-on AMOLED display.
The Fitbit Edge sits in the middle between Google’s display-less Fitbit Air launched back in May, and the recently released Pixel Watch 5, giving customers a good choice of options.
Featuring an ultra-seek design just 11.5mm thin, the Fitbit Edge follows the natural curve of your wrist and is comfortable to wear all day and night.
The tracker is made from durable recycled aluminum, with Google offering four colour options, including Obsidian (Matte Black case), Fog (Polished Silver case), Olive (Satin Pyrite case), and Canyon (Warm Gold case) with a matching ‘Active Band’ included – though there are options for Metal Link, Magnetic and Sports bands in multiple colour options to match your style.
Hardware wise, the 1.34” hybrid Always-On AMOLED display offers glanceable information as well as ‘expressive clock faces’. Google has used the Pixel Watch 5 interface as inspiration, giving the Fitbit Edge interface easy access to information including glanceable complications for your essential stats including step count and weather, while your Google Health Metrics including Sleep, cycle-tracking and heart-rate are easily seen as well.
Google has also brought more smart features to the fitness tracker, including Google Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications.
As a mid-point in their range, the Fitbit Edge has the advantage of being a fitness tracker and offers a long-lasting battery which can last up to a week on a single charge.
It’s chock full of sensors, including red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation (SpO2), as well; as an optical heart rate sensor, electrical sensors compatible with ECG app and far field skin temperature sensor.
The tracker includes support for workout guidance for more than 50 exercise modes, with the ability to automatically recognise and categorise up to 100 workouts, from outdoor runs and rides to daily walks and more.
The Fitbit Edge supports both Android and iOS devices, with tracking through the Google Health app. Google has also said they’ll throw in three months of Google Health Premium when you purchase Google Fitbit Edge.
Priced at $269 AUD, the Fitbit Edge is available to pre-order now through the Google Store, with devices expected to ship from October 30th.
