Intel – Simplifying the Choice

Intel have done a pretty darn good job over the last decade getting that ‘intel inside’ message out there, and because of that they are clearly one of the better known brands in the world.

Problem is, today – it’s more complicated than ever to work out if you’ve got the best of the best or the best of the bottom when it comes to processors.

Remember Pentium, Pentium 2, 3 etc.

You’d know you had ‘the latest’ and you’d just compare the clock speed to check its the fastest.

Today, you’ve got Atom , Centrino, Celeron, Pentium, Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Core i7.  Pretty hard for the average user to work out what’s what.

Intel are keen to simplify that, so next year, the team at Intel are going to make life easier, with a set range of ‘models’ – the Atom (Netbooks) and for PC’s and Notebooks – Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7.

As it was explained to me by the people at Intel – think of it like a range of cars – the model numbers or names stay the same, but they are improved on and while the models are newer the name stays the same.  The detail will be what comes behind the name, like clockspeed, turbo and the like.

Fantastic move, because I simply cannot help but struggle to explain to someone how to compare to PC’s today.

More on all that later.

You might have seen some rather funny commercials Intel have been using,  I’ve included them below for a laugh, as well as a darn good ‘guide to numbers’ for any PC buyer – check it out.
