Jaguar C-X16 concept car before Frankfurt Show

When was the last time you looked at a Jaguar and thought ‘I really want one of those’? Not since you last saw an old Jaguar XJS V12 roaring (OK, struggling but with a great engine note) down the street? Yep, us too. But then Jaguar went and showed this to the world – the C-X16 concept car. Looking like a Nissan 370Z had an artistic collision with a Ferrari California, the C-X16 is a Jaguar that makes you stop and look… in a good way.

Jaguar has made some great sports cars in the past, but you have to go way back to 1961 for the last two-seater variety with rear wheel drive, the E-Type. The C-X16 steps up and revives the sporting passion in the big cat – to begin with, there is a 3.0 litre turbo-charged V6 hybrid engine inside. It may sound like an odd choice, but when you note that Porsche’s hero engine is still a six-cylinder, and that the C-X16 produces 350Kw of power and 685Nm of torque, the choice seems extremely generous.

For those that want that power in real-wold performance, put the 0-100 dash in 4.4 seconds up your pipe and smoke it. Or how about topping out around the 300kph mark? ‘But what about the environment?’ you say? Bloody hell you’re one confused chap. Do you want performance or power? We did mention it was a hybrid though and that should ease your conscience while you’re tearing down Sydney’s F3 motorway at… 110kph. It can travel at up to 80kph on just solar power and CO2 emissions come in at a measly 165 grams per kilometre.

Want one? Forget about it… for now. It’s just a concept. It will, however, be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show where more details about a possible roll out may come to light.

Price: $TBC
