It’s the CD player that graces every style-masters’ lounge room, from celebrities to business barons. The B&O BeoSound 9000 is arguable the best CD player of all time. Now its time is over.
Bang & Olufsen has confirmed to EFTM that the BeoSound 9000 will cease production. The amazing six-CD player has not only become the player of choice for the upwardly affluent, but the prop of choice for designer apartments in movies. Remember Matthew McConaughey using the glass panelled device in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Of course you don’t, because nobody watched that movie aside from me, but trust me, he had a great apartment and it was the obvious choice of CD player for someone in a big-time advertising job.
The BeoSound 9000 features a motorised glass panel to protect your six CDs, it has touch sensitive buttons and can skip tracks across CDs without a hint of a CD changing pause. After the CD has stopped playing, it even comes to rest at exactly the same spot you loaded it, so load the CD to display the text the right way up and it will stop in the same position. Even Bang & Olufsen say that the BeoSound 9000 “to many is the essence of Bang & Olufsen.” We wouldn’t disagree with that.
It’s not too late to run into your local B&O store and place an order for the BeoSound 9000, but if you’re thinking about it, don’t take your time. After all, it’s been around since the 1990s, so you’ve had plenty of time to think about it!
