Sanford I. Weill to sell his $88 million NYC penthouse

One of the 25 men Time Magazine said was responsible for the GFC is set to sell his $88 million NYC Penthouse as a gesture of goodwill.

Goodwill because Weill says that all the proceeds of the sale will be give to charity. The penthouse apartment is on 15 Central Park West in a limstone building designed Robert A.M. Stern and developed by Arthur and William Lie Zeckendorf. Famous for its large apartments, pads were initially snapped up by the rich and famous, including Denzel Washington and Sting. But in this time of crisis on Wall Street, Weill says it’s a good time for the rich to be quiet.

Weill bought the property in 2007 for just $46 million, so stands to give a hell of a lot to charity if the $88 million asking price is reached. So what do you get for $88 million these days? Well, firstly, the most expensive apartment ever in Manhattan. You’ll get four bedrooms, a library, 10-metre wide living room and six and a half bathrooms. There’s also a balcony that wraps around with fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline.

Weill made it big as the CEO of Citigroup Inc, during which time Time Magazine states he was responsible for shattering the law that limited risks investment bankers could take.

Weill and his wife will move into a sixth floor apartment in the same building that they also own.
