The Lumia 800 Is Nokia’s First Windows Phone For Australia

Nokia unveiled its first Windows Phone 7 handsets all the way back in October last year. And now we know that one of those phones – the Lumia 800 – will be launching in Australia in March. Yay?

Essentially a slightly tweaked N9 with the impressive Windows Phone 7 operating system instead of MeeGo, the Lumia 800 features a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 8MP camera and 16GB of internal storage, as well as featuring integrated navigation and some special Nokia music offerings.

Given our thoughts on the N9, and our love for the Windows Phone operating system, we have extremely high hopes for this phone, which will be available for Telstra, Optus and Vodafone customers and all major retailers in March.

Both Microsoft and Nokia are betting their futures in the smartphone race on this partnership, which does make us wonder why Australia is only getting its first handset from the joint venture five months after it was announced (and four months after it launched in the UK). Especially given we already know that the superior Lumia 900 will be launching in the US in March as well.

That said, we’re still crazy excited by this phone.
