Lehigh University prices Star Wars Death Star at $852,000,000,000,000,000

All you evil geniuses out there, listen up. If you want to build the Death Star to wreak havock on the world, you better start saving now. Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, America, has priced it at around $852,000,000,000,000,000.

Ignore the obvious question of what the hell they are doing with their time. Economics students at  Lehigh University couldn’t give a stuff about the growing European financial crisis, or indeed the state of financial shock America is in at the moment. No. Instead, they would rather put together costing on a fictional space ship of death. They’ve apparently come to this pricing conclusion because the diametre of the Death Star is 140km and its made of steel. At the current price of steel it would be around the figure we mentioned before.

The news surfaced on the blog Centives blog on how much it would cost to build a Death Star which also states that there is enough iron on earth to build about two billion Death Stars (there’s a thought). The problem is that at the rate steel is produced it would take 833,315 years to produce enough steel to begin work.

Oh, and they seem to have forgotten that it’s not just one big clump of steel. There are computers and lasers and stuff as well, which we assume would cost money too.

Note: Centives quoted the wrong figure at first, a figure of $8,100,000,000,000,000 which News is still running.
