Samsung unveils the Galaxy S III

Right up until HTC released the One X, Samsung’s Galaxy S II has been the best Android phone on the market. At an event in London overnight, the Korean giant announced its successor, the Galaxy S III. It looks amazing.

Boasting a 4.8-inch Super-AMOLED screen with a 720 x 1280 resolution and powered by a new Samsung quad-core processor, the phone SGS3 will come in three different versions, offering 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, along with a MicroSD slot for additional storage. The 2100mAh battery – unlike most smartphones these days – is replaceable, making it ideal for heavy users. The 8MP camera has been boosted on teh software front, and is now capable of shooting up to 20 images in burst mode, as well as take still images while filming 1080p video. The 1.9MP front camera can shoot 720p video as well.

The whole deal weighs in at just 133 grams, and is only 8.6mm thick, making it incredibly well designed for its monster 4.8-inch display. Especially given the sheer number of sensors inside, which includes an NFC chip and a barometer, on top of the standard GPS and accelerometers.

There’s no word on Aussie release dates, or whether Australia will get the LTE or the HSPA+ version, but given that the SGS3 is hitting Europe at the end of this month, expect some form of announcement to arrive in the not too distant future…
