When it comes to summer garden work, blokes are always keen to have a bit of portable grunt which is the equivalent of man-bling. Having the neighbour ask about your new whipper-snipper and then work out a reason not to loan it to them because it’s your pride and joy. Husqvarna is one brand you want to check out this summer if you’re refreshing your powered garden tools.
You may not have known, but Husqvarna is the world’s largest producer of lawn mowers, chainsaws and portable petrol-powered garden equipment such as trimmers and blowers so when they reveal four new models it’s worth taking a sneaky look at your local garden centre.
If you’ve spent a few hours behind the trimmer or edger you’ll know what’s important. A light-weight but powerful cutter makes for the right mix of effective performance and grunt. The new 500 series trimmers and brushcutters appear to offer a great blend of both power and weight along with a critical balance to make them easy to use.
All four feature the Husqvarna two-stroke X-Torq engine, which has a high torque and a wider rpm range than many two-strokes which is what you need for the best cutting power.
For the greenie gardener, you’ll also have a 75% reduction in exhaust emissions and possible fuel savings up to 20%.
While not the most expensive of the four, the stand out model is the 525LST which has a high torque bevel gear to increase acceleration of the trimming head for optimum performance.
When it comes to versatility, you’ll be shelling out $599 for the 525RJD which has a 6-in-1 detachable shaft to take a range of optional attachments from hedge trimmer, polesaw, edger, tiller and sweeper.
