Meet Filip – the phone and smart locator for kids aged 5-11

Admit it, you do not want to give your kids a phone.  But you would like them to be able to contact you so perhaps you’ll give in?  And you would like to be able to locate them.  This is very cool – It’s called Filip, and at the moment it’s in the USA but there’s no reason we shouldn’t get it in Australia

Filip – Phone and Locator for kids

Filip – calls to select numbers at the press of a button

The reason you don’t want your child to have a phone is because you don’t know who they will call, you don’t want people calling them, and you don’t want the bill shock and most of all you don’t want them to lose the phone right?

Now imagine you got them a cool clip-on watch, funky colour, not a bad look, and a digital display watch.

Next imagine that you could program just five numbers with names into the watch, and with the press of a button they could call you. Talk to you Dick Tracy style and even receive text messages from you.

Filip has just two buttons. One lets the child scroll through the five names programmed into the watch. The other initiates the phone call to the chosen number. Simple as that.

As a parent you can send short messages to them, though they cannot respond they could just call you back. You can also open an app on your smartphone and see exactly where they are on a map.

There are safezones you can set up so when the little fella is at the park, that’s ok, but venture off and mum or dad get an alert on their phone.

In an emergency the watch will trigger a sound recording and call each of the five contacts and broadcast the location also.

Honestly, so simple, it’s crazy.

The device has an AT&T SIM card built into it, costs $199 up front and $10 a month. If it was to go global the company would need to do deals to manufacture the local SIM into the device in each market. Let’s make that happen hey? Telstra, Optus, Vodafone?
