harman/kardon hit it out of the park again with the Esquire Mini – Our review

Damn these companies are making it hard to choose a Bluetooth speaker, with so many on the market you’ve got to find a way to stand out. Looks, sound, features? These are the options. And following on from the stunning Esquire, harman/kardon have done it again, and possibly better with the Esquire Mini.  We’ve put it through its paces and it’s impressive.

It’s small, about the size of a phablet but somehow the sound it produces is excellent.

With a chrome push-out stand at the back it will sit with ease on your desk allowing you to enjoy great music and even Bluetooth phone calls.

Pairing is a breeze, and when you first press play you’ll appreciate the sound that comes with harman/kardon.  It’s a rich sound, not too deep but with clarity which may surprise given the compact size.

Take a call using the hands-free function and I immediately noticed the impressive quality.  At my end a crisp call (mobile to mobile), while at the other end the reports were of a clear sound coming through.

That’s likely due to the built-in echo and noise-cancellation to help you get clear conferencing of calls.

And to top it all off the USB on the side will allow you to suck some of the juice out of the speaker’s battery and into your smartphone.

All that topped off with real leather back and a brushed aluminium finish.

At $229 it’s not cheap, but also not extreme.  You’ll find it at Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, MOVE, David Jones and Apple Stores across the country.
