Less than 6 months after launching in Australia, EFTM can confirm that over 200 Model S cars have been sold in Australia by innovative manufacturer Tesla giving it a good kick-start on a long future in Australia.
Just a few weeks ago we brought you the news that the Tesla Model S was outselling some of its key competition here in Australia, based on registration data in NSW alone and some clever deductions, we estimated around 170 vehicles on the roads at the end of March.
EFTM can now add to that with thanks to a passionate community of owners. You see there’s a little game of “spot the Tesla” going on across the country. From looking at cars at Tesla Showrooms, Superchargers and out on the road, Tesla owners are snapping pics of their “siblings” and keeping a list.
Using state motor registry’s to cross-reference the information, we can confirm that 199 200 Teslas are on the road, with the likelihood of 10 to 20 more that are unaccounted for given the crowd-sourced nature of this exercise, I think it’s safe to call it : Tesla have sold more than 200 cars in Australia. (This also does not include the original Roadster model, of which it’s believed 20 were sold in Australia)
The state by state data on the car-spotting breaks down this way:
Total: 199 200
Hey, don’t take my word for it – here’s the list of 199 200 number plates that match to a Tesla Model S in states right across Australia. (edited non-personalised plates so-as not to publish every single plate, at the request of some owners)
