Spring Carnival Prep

The season is here and the horses are ready to run. A day at the races is a great day, here are a few tips to be prepared and looking fresh.

Eyewear

That thing in the sun that we are so glad to see warming us up is also something that can cause vision impairment and damage. Protect yourself, see through the glare and look good doing it with these new Maui Jim sunglasses. Maui Jim has always been known for their high standard in eye protection however have lacked in the style department. In 2015 this looks to have changed with this great pair from Maui Jim, Stillwater.

Get with the times

People notice and judge a man from his watch more than anything. That piece of wristwear tells a lot about a man and the velcro strap from ’87 won’t cut it anymore. We’ve fallen in love with this beauty from Melbourne Watch Company, the Portsea in rose gold/blue. It looks fantastic, has quality construction yet doesn’t carry the price tag of an Omega, Rolex etc.

Cut the grass

Wearing layers in winter and letting the man-coat grow is no longer required in spring. We got ourselves in better shape thanks to the new Gillette for Body razor (available soon). It is much easier to use than their facial shavers on the body, has protection to keep you from cutting anything umm important and is handy to keep in the shower.

Accessorise with wood

Stand out at the track with a Wood & Beau bow tie. They’re made of wood, feature some awesome patterns and will be sure to attract the attention of all around you. We love these unique bow ties, they’re also easy to maintain!

Wait for the beat to drop

The Melbourne Cup will feature a fantastic headlining DJ, David Guetta will be live and centre for the big race while he also launches his own champagne bottle with G.H. Mumm. A seriously sexy bottle with the same bubbly goodness inside.

Start the day with a blend

Before heading to the track we love a little drink to get things started. Here is a quick recipe we’ve been trying in the Breville Boss, but you can use a normal blender for similar results.

Serves 4

4 standard drinks

Ingredients

  • 60ml tequila
  • 60ml Cointreau or triple sec liqueur
  • 1 ⁄3 cup (80ml) lime or lemon juice
  • ¼ cup (60ml) sugar syrup
  • 12 ice cubes

Method

  1. Place ingredients into blender jug in the order listed and secure lid.
  2. Press ICE CRUSH. Process until well combined and ice is crushed. Serve in salt rimmed glasses.
