Revealed: The Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder

Midway through the year we spent a couple of days in the Lamborghini Huracán, Yep the EFTM number plates have sat on few finer cars and the bucket list is now shorter. It is a stupidly quick, massively stunning piece of motoring gold but now they’ve gone and taken the roof off. The Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder was unveiled this week at Bondi.

A lightweight, electrohydraulic soft top allows for some seriously exotic open air driving. The same 5.2-litre naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine with 449kW allows for a 3.4 second 0 – 100km/dash and top speed of 234 km/h. It’s 0.2 seconds slower than the coupé we tested but the Spyder includes some 2016 technical advancements. Fuel saving cylinder on demand and stop/start technology have been introduced along with a tweaked all-wheel drive set-up.

But it’s all about the roof of course which comes in three colours: black, brown and red. Interestingly the Spyder takes on a significantly new shape when the roof is up compared to the coupé and sits at just 1.18 metres tall. Adding to the overall awesomeness are two distinctive fins which appear when the roof opens, they appear seemingly from nowhere and help shape the profile view of the Spyder.

The whole roof opening sequence takes 17 seconds and can be operated up to 50km/h. Often convertibles lack the stiffness of a fully formed chassis, however the Spyder is improved by 40% over its Gallardo predecessor.

You’ll need to fork out just a tad more than the coupé, around $40,000 with a before on-roads price off $470,800.
