Cambridge G5 Bluetooth speaker – for something more than a little different: Review

I feel for anyone trying to release a wireless speaker in this market at this time – there are just so many of them, so for a consumer often it’s not the sound quality but the price and design that will sell the device.  Sitting in the higher end of the price bracket the Cambridge G5 sure does tick the box for design as well as quality.

I found the G5 to be strong on the treble in my music without a heavy thumping bass. While at the same time the bass was always present, as always a difficult thing to describe in words, but certainly not one for the “doof doof” market but for lovers of pure music across a wide spectrum.

Cambridge isn’t a brand that mucks about with cheap speakers and cheap sound, you are buying quality audio here, the brand is normally spoken of by audiophiles so I doubt anyone is going to have a complaint about the sound quality.

It’s a slim unit – 121mm x 270mm x 55mm, yet inside are two 30mm drivers, and a 60mm subwoofer and some passive aux bass radiators to produce a whole bunch of power.

The sound easily fills a room, this unit could be your single living room speaker and entertain the family, or sit in the corner of a small office for great background sound.

With a battery lasting 14 hours at the highest volumes, and 20 hours ambient sound modes there’s enough power there to charge your devices too if you need.

NFC enabled for bluetooth pairing, and if the budget allows – you can pair a second speaker for a fuller sound again.

It comes in two colours, Gold and White Leather along with a Gun Metal and Black leather – you’ll find one that works for you.

At $449 it’s not cheap, but you’re in this for the quality, not the price.  Put it head to head and you won’t be disappointed.

High price, but in a league of its own overall.” author=”Trevor Long” pubdate=”2016-06-09″ user_review=”4.5″ min_review=”0″ max_review=”5″ ]
