Catalyst waterproof case for your Apple Watch

I don’t want to break it to you, but the Apple Watch is not waterproof.  It is water-resistant but for many that’s just not enough, so we’ve tested the Catalyst Apple Watch case which offers you just what you might be looking for.

Don’t take it from me, here it is straight from the horse’s mouth:

Is my Apple Watch waterproof?

Your Apple Watch is splash and water-resistant, but not waterproof.* For example, you may wear and use your Apple Watch during exercise (exposure to sweat is OK), in the rain, and while washing your hands.

That’s what Apple’s website tells those wondering about taking a dip with their watch on, and while others have told me they swim regularly with their Apple Watch on, I’d be interested to see if things like the microphone or speaker quality has degraded over time.

So, we can get cases for our phones why not the watch!  Enter Catalyst.  Their case is made for Apple Watch and while at face value it looked big and bulky, on the wrist it was actually just fine.

It’s $89.99 so you’re really going to want to get some solid use from it, but be warned, this is not a clip on clip off job for now and then – you really want to commit to this case.  IP-68 Waterproofing and tested 5atm which to my knowledge is great for showering and shallow swimming, perhaps not scuba diving ok!

The reason being, it’s a full installation.  Removing the band from your watch and placing the watch face into the silicone like sleeve is the first step.

Then you need to get the front and back of the Catalyst case on.

Secured with a screw, you’re not taking this guy on and off poolside.

Though, as I say – it didn’t feel big and bulky when I wore it for 3-4 days.

If you look closely, the silicone case is sitting flush with the actual watch touch-sheen, so there is no direct cover, just the case being squeezed together.  This means the watch remains responsive and clear – but you should triple check your installation for any twists or bends.

The band on the Catalyst is a rubberised material which picks up a bit of dust around the place, good news – rinse it off!  Apart from that, no complaints here.

Around the back all the biometric sensors still work perfectly fine through the enclosure so you can still have heart-rate monitoring.

For those wanting to swim with their Apple Watch – the Catalyst Apple Watch case seems the perfect solution.
